Verdict
Courtyard suits collectors who want real graded slabs they can sell back instantly, trade on a fee-free marketplace, or keep in an insured Brink's vault and ship home later. The main trade-off is that its terms don't disclose per-card odds and call buyback a best-effort, time-limited offer, and cash-outs go through USDC stablecoin. Before you buy, check whether odds are shown for your pack tier, and check the FedEx cost to your address.
Pros
- Instant buyback on cards
- Graded slabs vaulted and insured at Brink's
- 0% marketplace fees since June 2025
- Pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or bank
Cons
- Per-card odds not in its terms
- Buyback is a best-effort, time-limited offer
- Shipping billed at cost
- Cash-out goes through USDC stablecoin
How it works
Courtyard sells digital packs that each reveal one real graded card. After the reveal you choose what happens next: sell the card back to Courtyard, list it on its marketplace, keep it in an insured vault, or have it shipped to you. Here is how each step works, what it costs, and what to check before you buy.
How does Courtyard work?
- Open an account. You must be 18+. The operator is Courtyard, Inc., and its terms are governed by California law with JAMS arbitration.
- Pay. Courtyard takes Apple Pay, Google Pay, Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, bank transfer and USDC on Polygon. Card payments carry a small fee, while paying from its digital wallet is free. PayPal is not listed.
- Open a pack. Packs are sold through the Vending Machine at a fixed price, from $25 to $10,000 and up. Each digital sealed pack holds one random card.
- Decide what to do with the card. Take the buyback offer, list it, hold it, or ship it.
What is inside a Courtyard pack?
Every card is a real slab graded by PSA, CGC or BGS. It is stored and insured at Brink’s and represented as an NFT on the Polygon blockchain, which records who owns it. Categories include Pokémon, baseball, basketball and football cards, plus comics, luxury watches and rare coins.
Courtyard’s terms do not disclose per-card odds, and we did not find a provably fair scheme. The card you pull can be worth less than the pack price. Our guide to expected value in online pack openings shows how to judge a pack when odds are not published.
How does Courtyard buyback work?
Buyback is an offer from the site to buy your pulled card for a share of its fair market value. At Courtyard:
- Rate: 90% of fair market value on cards
- Timing: Instant after the reveal
- Pricing: fair market value comes from Card Ladder sales data
The terms call buyback a “best-effort offer” that is limited in duration, so it is not a standing guarantee. Before you accept, compare the offer with recent sales of the same card and grade. See how the rate stacks up in our buyback rates comparison.
What fees does Courtyard charge?
| Cost | What Courtyard charges |
|---|---|
| Card payments | A small fee (digital wallet payments are free) |
| Marketplace | 0% buyer and seller fees since June 3, 2025 |
| Vaulting and insurance | Free |
| Cash-out | No fee listed for digital transfers |
| US shipping | FedEx at cost from the vault; vaulting and insurance free |
Cash-outs are paid in USDC stablecoin at standard (two to three business days), same-day or instant speed, according to PackSpy.
How does shipping work?
Cards stay in the vault until you ask for them. Courtyard ships by FedEx at cost, based on destination and weight, and can add a small handling fee in busy periods. The total is shown before checkout, and the About page says shipping is invoiced separately. You can also send slabs in: Courtyard accepts graded cards from PSA, CGC, eBay and Fanatics Collect.
