The Best Match quiz is a shortcut through our full ranking. Instead of reading every review, you tell us what you collect and how you like to rip, and we show you the 2 sites that fit. This page explains what rip sites are, how they work and what to check before you open your first pack.
What is a rip site?
A rip site sells card packs online. You pay for a pack, the site opens it for you on screen, and the cards you pull are real cards. Collectors call opening a pack a “rip”, which is where the name comes from. You’ll also see them called pack-opening sites or online pack breaks.
Pokémon is the most common game on rip sites, and many sites add sports cards or other games such as One Piece, Magic: The Gathering or Lorcana. Pack prices vary widely, from cheap packs to premium ones, and each site sets its own prices, odds and fees. That’s why the same budget can go much further on one site than on another.
How online rips work
- You buy a digital pack. Each pack lists the cards or card tiers it can contain. Many sites also show the odds for each tier before you buy.
- A real card is pulled for you. Depending on the site, it comes from a pool of real cards held in the site’s vault, or from a real sealed pack opened for you.
- You choose what happens next. You can sell the card back to the site for credit (buyback), have it shipped to you, or keep it in the vault to trade or sell later.
That last step is where sites differ most. A strong buyback rate means more of each pull’s value can come back to your balance. Cheap, reliable shipping matters more if you want the cards in your hands.
What to check before you rip
- Buyback rate. The share of a card’s value the site pays if you sell it back, and how long that offer lasts. Our guide to buyback rates compares the sites we rank.
- Odds shown. Look for published odds or a full card list before you pay. Some sites offer provably fair draws you can check yourself; our guide on how provably fair rips work shows how.
- Fees and shipping. Add shipping, withdrawal and payment fees to the pack price to see what a rip really costs.
- Crypto or not. Some sites take cards, Apple Pay or bank transfers. Others run on crypto and need a wallet. If you don’t want a wallet, choose “No crypto or wallet needed” in the quiz.
- State rules and 18+. You must be 18 or older, and some sites set 21+ in certain states. Some sites aren’t open in every state, so the quiz asks for yours and leaves those sites out.
Chasing hits vs steady value
There are two common ways to rip, and the quiz asks which one sounds like you.
Chasing a big hit means higher-priced packs with rarer top cards. The top pulls can be worth far more than the pack, but most rips land well below the price you paid. It suits collectors who want the chance at a grail card and accept that most packs won’t return it.
Steady value means cheaper packs and selling most pulls back. Here the buyback rate matters most, because it decides how much of each pull comes back to your balance. Big hits are rarer, but your money usually lasts longer.
Neither style beats the house over time. Our guide to expected value explains why most people get back less than they spend over many packs, and how to judge whether a rip is worth it to you.
Rip responsibly
Pack opening involves chance. Treat the price of a pack as the cost of the fun, never as a way to make money. Set a budget before you start and stop when it’s gone, don’t open more packs to win back what you’ve lost, and be careful with instant buyback, which makes it easy to lose track of what you’ve spent.
If ripping stops being fun, take a break. Our responsible play page lists warning signs and where to get free, confidential help, including 1-800-GAMBLER.

FAQ
How does the Best Match quiz pick sites?
First it leaves out sites that can't work for you: sites that aren't open in your state, and sites without your card types or payment methods. It then weighs the sites that are left on price, buyback, trust features and payments, using the facts we check on every site, and shows 2 of the sites that fit. Ties go to our main ranking, and the note under the quiz says whether sites we have a deal with are shown first.
Do sites pay to be matched?
Our match starts from your answers and leaves out sites that don't fit. We earn from some links; the note under the quiz says whether sites we have a deal with are shown first among the ones that fit - see our affiliate disclosure for how we earn money.
Is my data saved?
Your answers are saved anonymously so we can see which questions matter and improve the match. We don't ask for your name or email, and we don't store your IP address. While you take the quiz, your answers are kept in your browser so you can go back without starting over.
Why was a site left out?
A site is left out when it isn't open in your state, or when its terms list the US as restricted. If no site has all the card types or payment methods you picked, we show the closest match and say what it's missing.
Are rip sites legal in my state?
Most rip sites are open in most US states, but rules differ by state and some sites exclude certain states or set a higher minimum age. The quiz asks for your state and leaves out sites that don't accept it. Always check a site's own terms before you sign up.
