Responsible play
Online pack opening involves chance. What you pull is random, and it can be worth much less than what you paid. A big hit you see online is not a typical result. Treat pack opening as paid entertainment, never as a way to make money. If you need help now, call 1-800-GAMBLER, free and confidential.
How can you keep pack opening fun?
- Set a budget before you start. Decide how much you can afford to spend on entertainment this week or month, and stop when it’s gone.
- Treat it as entertainment. Think of the price of a pack as the cost of the fun, the same way you’d think of a movie ticket. Any card you keep or sell back is a bonus.
- Don’t chase losses. Opening another pack to win back what you’ve spent usually makes the loss bigger.
- Take breaks. Step away between sessions, and set a time limit as well as a money limit.
- Keep it separate from bills. Never use money meant for rent, food, bills or debt payments.
- Be careful with crypto balances and credit. Deposits in crypto or on a credit card can make spending feel less real. Track it in dollars.
- Don’t let instant buyback speed you up. Selling a card back for site credit and opening again straight away is the fastest way to lose track of what you’ve spent.
What should you check before you open a pack?
Knowing how a site works makes it easier to set realistic expectations:
- What the pack can contain. Look for published odds or a per-pack checklist. If a site offers provably fair draws, our guide on how provably fair rips work shows how to check them.
- What you get back if you sell. Check the buyback rate, whose valuation it is based on, and how long the offer lasts. Our guide to buyback rates compares the sites we rank.
- What it costs overall. Add shipping, withdrawal and card fees to the pack price. Our guide to expected value and whether pack openings are worth it explains why, over many packs, most people get back less than they spend.
- Whether the site is for you. Check its minimum age and whether it is available in your state. Each site review lists both.
What are the signs of a problem?
Pack opening may be becoming a problem if you:
- spend more money or time than you planned, often
- open more packs to win back what you’ve lost
- borrow money, sell things or skip bills to keep ripping
- hide how much you spend from family or friends
- feel restless, anxious or irritable when you try to cut back
- rip to escape stress, boredom or low moods
- let it get in the way of work, school or relationships
If any of these sound familiar, it’s a good time to pause. You can ask a site’s support team to close your account, which is a reasonable first step. Removing saved cards and crypto wallets from the site also puts a pause between wanting to open a pack and being able to.

What are the age requirements?
Pack-opening sites are for adults. The sites we list that publish an age rule require you to be at least 18, and some require 21 or older. Age rules can differ between a site’s terms and the site itself, and between products on the same site. Each review shows the site’s minimum age and notes any conflict we found. If you are under 18, please don’t use these sites.
If you share a device with someone under 18, you can use parental control tools on your phone or browser to block pack-opening and similar sites.
